Abby Gilbertson
Architectural Assistant
Abby is an experienced Architectural Assistant with a First Class Honours Bachelor of Architecture degree (BArch) and Masters degree (MArch) from Liverpool John Moores University, where her work earned her both a RIBA Bronze Medal and a Liverpool Architectural Society Graduate Prize in 2019. Currently based in our Liverpool studio whilst working towards professional qualification, Abby has supported architectural teams on projects across a variety of sectors including education, healthcare, sport & leisure and residential schemes.
She is very passionate about urban regeneration, approaching vacant spaces or buildings with empathy and seeking to establish or enhance a sense of civic identity. Her interest lies in architecture that demonstrates a thoughtful understanding of the surrounding context and culture, while placing significant emphasis on sustainability and addressing the evolving challenges posed by climate change.
Her passion for urban regeneration has been evident throughout her involvement in the major, mixed-use Westmoreland Village development in Douglas on the Isle of Man – a large sustainable development based on the “20-minute neighbourhood” concept, providing a mix of residential dwellings, affordable housing, high quality public spaces and places to work. Abby has found working on this project to be been incredibly rewarding, as she strongly believes that the regeneration of Douglas’ existing infrastructure will positively impact the quality of life for residents through the implementation of renewable energy strategies, improved pedestrian routes and the provision of local amenities; fostering a more cohesive and interconnected neighbourhood.
