Robert is a Director in our London Studio who first joined Ellis Williams in 1998 after studying at Sheffield University. During his first few years with the Practice he was a member of the team that designed and realised the RIBA award-winning Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, sparking his passion for both heritage and arts projects.
Since then, he has worked on a wide range of theatre, museum, gallery and art centre schemes across the UK, often within the context of heritage or Listed buildings. He has also spent more than 10 years as a Technical Advisor to Arts Council England, checking and reporting to ACE on the compliance of capital grant applications against ACE design requirements on over 40 schemes across England.
His experience also includes the design and delivery of major new-build art facilities such as Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot and the masterplanning and phased redevelopment of Warwick Arts Centre. Robert also has extensive experience and specialist skills in relation to the design of sympathetic solutions to regenerate historic buildings. He has led architectural teams on many heritage conservation, restoration and redevelopment projects across the UK, including a number of award-winning schemes such as Newport Market and The Jennings Warehouse in Porthcawl.
