Neil became Director of the newly opened Manchester office earlier this year.
He qualified as an architect in October 1996, joining Ellis Williams Architects in 2001 after 5 years of design and project running experience mainly in the commercial sector. He joined the practice to gain more experience in the education sector and has acted as project architect on a number of new build and refurbishment projects of various sizes including Liverpool Community College, West Cheshire and Stroud Colleges.
The experience gained as a project architect interfacing with clients, consultants and contractors has provided the essential understanding required to ensure results at all levels within the design and construction process.
Neil was promoted to associate in 2005 which coincided with the practice involvement in the Lancashire BSF programme and he was immediately responsible for leading separate teams and managing design on all 3 phases.
The Lancashire BSF programme provided a valuable understanding of the often complex and involved PFI procurement routes through which clients and architects must navigate to realise exemplar buildings.
More recently Neil led the EWA team on the highly prestigious National Cycling Centre project in Manchester. The addition of a new indoor BMX track to the existing Velodrome was intended to provide not only a training facility for British Cycling’s elite riders ahead of the forthcoming Olympics but also to serve the wider community for years to come.
