The Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire Institute of Technology (SoSIoT) is a transformative £22.5 million development, built at the heart of the Staffordshire Station Gateway regeneration scheme. Using a hub-and-spoke model, it serves communities across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, connecting learners with cutting-edge technical education.
Led by the Ofsted Outstanding Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG), SoSIoT unites top-tier education partners including Keele University, Burton and South Derbyshire College, Axia Solutions, South Staffordshire College, and Stoke-on-Trent College.
SoSIoT delivers advanced qualifications in engineering, manufacturing, digital technologies, modern construction, and health sciences – sectors facing critical skills gaps. Supporting the development are a number of employer partners, including Dell, MOOG, Siemens and Hitachi. Their investment provided £500,000 worth of equipment and resources, such as two demonstration robots from KUKA, two collaborative robots from Siemens and a transformer donated by Hitachi Energy. In addition, industrial and logistics specialist Indurent is developing digital tools to bring real-life projects into the classroom, further enriching the learning experience for students.
The new three-storey facility features:
- VR/AR immersive spaces
- Robotics and automation lab
- Mock hospital ward and testing labs
- Advanced manufacturing learning factory
- Lecture theatre, bistro, and conference rooms
As one of only 21 Institutes of Technology in England, SoSIoT offers non-traditional routes to higher education, with progression pathways to Level 6 degrees and beyond, helping learners upskill, retrain, and access high-value careers.
