Ellis Williams were commissioned to undertake a full site masterplan and progress designs through to planning approval for the major new Botany Bay Designer Outlet Village development – creating a distinctive, retail-led mixed-use development of the highest quality, attracting leading brands to Chorley and creating a unique visitor experience.
Located adjacent to the M61 and Leeds Liverpool Canal, the existing heritage mill (Canal Mill) has sat proudly on the site for over 150 years and is fondly regarded by the people of Lancashire as a key landmark of their area and will be retained as the heart of the new village.
The village itself has been designed to complement the current waterside location and be seamlessly integrated with new public realm and existing landscape. The central street concept will create active frontages both to the street and also to the waterfront with a considered mix of A1/A3 units.
The new-build retail outlets will provide c223,211sqft of accommodation, with a mix of linked unit sizes agile enough to respond to market conditions and tenant needs.
The remodelled and refurbished heritage mill building will be stripped back to its original state, removing all existing modern extensions. Internally, new life will be breathed back into the structure, restoring the heritage assets and reorganising spaces and circulation to greatly improve accessibility and clarity of wayfinding.
