Located in Wythenshawe, South Manchester Phase 1 of the Sandilands Primary School redevelopment consists of a brand-new net zero carbon primary school together with localised external works.
The new two-storey school building provides state-of-the-art teaching and learning accommodation for over 400 pupils, including 2 nursery classrooms, 14 general classrooms. Main Hall, studio, library / ICT space, kitchen and servery, staff office and ancillary space. The building is designed to maximise natural lighting and includes PV panels on the roof and Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs), contributing to the school’s net zero sustainability goals.
The upcoming Phase 2 of the project consists of the demolition of the existing former school blocks, revised parking arrangements and landscaping of the remaining external areas to be in keeping with the new site layout. Realignment and resizing of the existing sports pitches is also required to meet DfE and Sport England requirements.
Ellis Williams is delighted to see the completion of Phase 1 and is looking forward to continuing our work with the school, the DfE, Tilbury Douglas and the rest of the design team into Phase 2.
