Russell Scott Primary School Department for Education Appointment

We are delighted to be working in partnership with Tilbury Douglas and the Department for Education (DfE) on the redevelopment of Russell Scott Primary School, creating a modern, sustainable learning environment that will serve pupils, staff and the wider community for generations to come.

Date

The new two-storey, 35,000 sq ft school has been designed to accommodate more than 470 pupils while maintaining the school’s existing capacity. Located on the western edge of the site, the building will provide high-quality teaching and learning spaces including infant and junior classrooms, a library, assembly hall, activity studio and a dedicated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) block.

The scheme also delivers significant improvements to the school’s external environment, reinstating valuable outdoor play and sports facilities with a 5v5 football pitch and a multi-use games area (MUGA) featuring two netball courts.
Sustainability has been embedded throughout the design. The proposals include a bio-solar roof, air source heat pumps, enhanced cycle storage and carefully managed parking provision, helping to reduce operational carbon and support the school’s long-term environmental ambitions.

Construction completion is targeted for September 2027. Once the new school is fully operational, the existing building will be demolished, allowing the school community to benefit from a purpose-built educational environment while maintaining continuity throughout the construction process.

Funded through the Department for Education’s School Rebuilding Programme, which Russell Scott Primary School joined in December 2022, the project demonstrates a shared commitment to investing in education, sustainability and community outcomes.

Our team is working alongside a collaborative team comprising Tilbury Douglas, Iceni Projects, BWB Consulting, TACE, OFR Consultants, Mode Transport Planning and specialist delivery partners to create an inspiring learning environment for future generations. We look forward to supporting the delivery of lasting educational and social value for the local community.
