Wrexham Sheltered Housing Programme

Progression of Wrexham Sheltered Housing Scheme Showcases Collaborative Excellence

Wrexham County Borough Council’s £16.9 million sheltered housing refurbishment programme has reached a significant milestone.

Date

Wrexham Sheltered Housing Scheme is delivering modern, accessible, and energy-efficient homes for older residents across the region. This transformative initiative reflects a shared commitment to improving quality of life and supporting independent living.

Ellis Williams played a pivotal role in shaping the vision and design of these schemes, working closely with partners to ensure each development meets the highest standards. The programme includes the successful completion of Tir y Capel in Llay, Llys y Mynydd in Rhos, Maes Y Capel in Coedpoeth, and most recently, Wisteria Court in Wrexham. The refurbishments have focused on:

  • Enhanced Accessibility: Larger apartments and improved layouts to support mobility.
  • Modernised Communal Spaces: Creating welcoming environments for social interaction.
  • Sustainability Measures: Incorporating triple-glazed windows and air source heat pumps to boost energy efficiency.

As the Wrexham sheltered housing programme continues to progress, we remain at the forefront of delivering design solutions that enrich vulnerable communities and set new benchmarks for social housing excellence.

"

Councillor David A Bithell, lead member for housing and climate change, said:

We were thrilled to reveal our fourth refurbishment of our Sheltered Housing stock, in collaboration with Read Construction, Ellis Williams Architects, and Caulmert. This significant investment has resulted in four high quality refurbishments, which support independent living for older people.

Mark Jones, Ellis Williams Associate

It’s a credit to all involved that the schemes have turned out so well, and will hopefully improve the lives of a number of returning and new residents.
