HRH Prince Andrew, the Duke of York was in Warrington today to officially open the new £10m UTC Warrington (University Technical College) and praised the ‘inspired thinking’ of the team behind the construction before a tour of the new facilities.
UTC Warrington opened its doors to the first intake of students in September 2016, as part of the Stadium Quarter development and specialises in science, technology, engineering and maths subjects for students aged 14-19.
The six-storey building houses £1 million pounds of specialist engineering equipment, plus £500,000 of technology ensuring that students are learning on industry relevant software and equipment alongside working with employees from key employer partners including Sellafield Ltd, Amec Foster Wheeler, Atkins, Fujitsu, Unilever, Network Rail and university sponsor Manchester Metropolitan University.
