We are delighted to see the first phase of our Strategic Masterplan for the former Royal Liverpool University Hospital now submitted for planning with nature and connectivity at the heart of this major new development. The proposal, submitted to Liverpool City Council in December 2025, represents a significant step in creating a biodiverse environment that enhances patient experience and supports the local ecosystem.

Designed to promote wellbeing, the garden will provide safe pedestrian and cycling routes, as well as areas for relaxation. The scheme aligns with the NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group’s ambitious Biodiversity Plan, embedding biophilic principles that go beyond the 10% Biodiversity Net Gain requirement.
The landscaping strategy will predominantly feature native species to encourage pollinators and ensure long-term ecological resilience. Informative signage will inspire patients, visitors, and staff to engage with nature and appreciate its wellbeing benefits.
The design phase has been funded by the government’s New Hospital Programme and forms the foundation of a wider masterplan to transform the site into a modern urban healthcare campus. We are proud to work with the talented design team alongside BCA Landscape, Sutcliffe, and Hoare Lea, to contribute to a project that exemplifies sustainable design and supports the NHS’s wholistic healthcare ambitions.
