Ellis Williams is delighted to be continuing its long-standing collaboration with Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and Tilbury Douglas Construction to deliver this flagship project involving the design and delivery of one of the UK’s first robotic High-Containment Level 3 laboratories, purpose-built to support cutting-edge research into infectious diseases.
Date
Backed by £10 million in funding through the Liverpool City Region Health and Life Sciences Investment Zone, the £20 million facility will feature state-of-the-art robotics, AI, and liquid handling systems. These technologies will enable researchers to safely study high-risk pathogens, support advanced human organoid research, and accelerate the development of new vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments.
The laboratories will serve as a key facility for the £260 million Infection Innovation Consortium: iiCON, led by LSTM. The laboratory will expand iiCON’s Organoids Platform and Bio-Actives Library and will support the consortium as it works to accelerate pioneering industry and academic co-innovation. The laboratory is forecast to generate £40 million in investment within its first three years, creating high-quality jobs and further solidifying the region’s position as a global leader in health innovation.
Ellis Williams is proud to support this transformative project, which will enhance collaboration between industry, academia, and the NHS, and play a vital role in fast-tracking life-saving treatments worldwide.
