Ellis Williams was commissioned by Wrexham County Borough Council to design the extension, remodelling and refurbishment of two existing sheltered housing facilities (Llys Y Mynedd & Tir Y Capel) to provide spacious, ‘care ready’ assisted living apartments. The works include extensive remodelling works to increase the apartments floor area and a full refurbishment of all apartments and communal spaces. The scheme also includes 4no. new-build independent living apartments adjacent to the existing buildings, as well as new external spaces.
The design meets with the following requirements:-
- Welsh Development Quality Requirements
- Reduction in carbon footprint to meet with Welsh Government aspirations to be Carbon Neutral by 2030
- Secure by Design: Gold Standard
- Lifetime Homes
- Dementia Design Principles
- Happi Principles
- All signage meets RNIB Visibly Better standards
With almost £17million set to be invested across the housing programme these projects are the first of a wider, long-term programme to help older people remain independent in their own home for longer by improving the standards of their accommodation. Following the success of these initial two schemes, our team has since been appointed on 2no. further schemes.
The official opening of Tir y Capel sheltered housing scheme in Llay took on place on 01st March 2023. Refurbishment works are ongoing at the second sheltered housing scheme at Llys y Mynydd, Rhos which are estimated to be completed by Autumn 2023.
