The Welsh National Sailing Academy and Events Centre is the new national venue for performance sailing for Wales. The Centre, which cuts a striking new form nestled between the dunes on the Llŷn Peninsula in Pwllheli, has been designed to maximize the potential afforded by the natural location and has been configured with the local community in mind – with flexible events space, education facilities and cafe bar areas for inclusive participation.

The aspiration for the project was to create a new facility that would build upon the natural beauty of the area and the reputation of the world-class sailing waters in Cardigan Bay, whilst also promoting Welsh language and culture through the multi-functional events space which can be used by local organisations, businesses, schools and the community.
The BREEAM Excellent building’s design has been very much influenced by its context and relationship with the surrounding landscape. The approach to green and sustainable technologies include the use of local stone for the substantial gabion walls, timber and also translucent ‘Danpalon’ which reduces the need for artificial lighting. Photovoltaic panels and biomass have also been included within the servicing strategy
