
University Technical College, Warrington opened in September 2016 and specialises in energy and engineering. It addresses the specific skills gap as identified by employers in engineering and energy skills in the findings of the Warrington Skills Commission (2012).
The brief required a range of workshops and laboratories, supported by general teaching and learning space, as well as refectory, administration and staff accommodation. The futuristic building is a high quality design in order to attract students and assist in the regeneration of the area. The UTC will follow the adjacent Incubator building as one of the first buildings to be realised within the Stadium Quarter Masterplan. The site constraints were demanding, with limited available construction space and required an imaginative and well-ordered response in order to ensure an efficient, high quality design solution.
