We were appointed by Manchester City Council to design a fully enclosed (70x100m) BMX racing track, to replicate the London 2012 Olympic track, with a clear structural span capable of seating 2000 spectators (1500 permanent and 500 temporary) to national competition level.
The national indoor BMX centre at Eastlands in Manchester houses a 2,000 seat capacity, clear span BMX arena and offices for the headquarters of British Cycling. The building is the second largest purpose-built BMX stadium in the world and only permanent indoor track in the UK allowing this popular sport to be enjoyed under cover by both the general public and elite athletes.
Physically linked to the iconic Manchester Velodrome, the centre provides a common gateway to both track and BMX racing and shared facilities for both buildings including communal exhibition space, administration, restaurant, retail outlets and the British Cycling offices at first floor.
Externally, the new public realm with multi-use plaza space allows for various outdoor events within the wider regeneration area.
