The Belvedere School has been part of Liverpool’s educational landscape for over 130 years. During that time it has built a well-deserved reputation for excellence in the education of young women. In 2007 it transferred to academy status becoming The Belvedere Academy, a state funded 11 to 19 school which admits girls of all abilities from across the region. In so doing, the school had grown in size and in the range of academic and extra-curricular opportunities it offers to its pupils and an expansion was needed to help open up 165 new places.
Located in a conservation area the new two-story, stand-alone extension, provides additional classroom space and incorporates two new IT suites following the Academy’s conversion of the existing IT classrooms into two new modern science labs. The extension also includes a new flexible dining hall, kitchen and breakout space.
The scheme, which utilised modular construction in order to reduce time on site and disruption, also features a new netball court to the rear of the new extension block that meets Sport England’s category standards for community level of play and allows the Academy to offer the new court for hire to community recreational teams. It also includes the provision of a new ‘woodland walk’ within the grounds, for the pupil’s recreation and study.
