Planning has been accepted by Plymouth City Council for this prestigious redevelopment with Henley Real Estate Development Ltd. The brief is for a high-quality hotel and luxury residential apartments.
The hotel will have 80 bed spaces with supporting restaurant and health club facilities for guests, and a function suite capable of accommodating a minimum of 150 guests. The concept for this hotel is a modern luxury boutique hotel, setting regional standards and aiming to be the first luxury hotel in Plymouth. Each bedroom is designed to generous space standards with the highest level of fittings and furnishings. Each guestroom floor includes a suite in the centre which will benefit from a separate living/dining and bedroom space and an external balcony. All rooms face directly towards Plymouth Sound and have floor-ceiling and wall-wall glazing to provide exceptional sea views.
There will be 88 residential apartments; the majority of which will be two-bedroomed with 10% each of one and three-bedroomed apartments. The top floor level will be solely three-bedroom penthouse units. The apartments will follow the hotel’s lead for modern luxury environments. Each apartment is planned around a central open plan living and dining space with floor-ceiling glazing and glazed door opening out onto a private terrace with panoramic sea views.
The spectacular views over the water have been the most important factor guiding the design of the buildings proposed. The opportunity to take in views of the Sound are maximised by the wave-form layout of the building: – derived from the sinuous curvature but irregular forms of the karst-limestone coastline forming the City’s southern edge, as well as creating a connection to the Art Deco style of the 1920’s Lido and to the fluid lines found in maritime architecture.
