We provided the full Architectural and Lead Consultant services as part of the Lambeth Primary Capital Programme. This project was a conversion of a former SEN school to a 2FE, 420 place, Primary School and a 50 place nursery.
This project is special because it has realised a high standard of design achievement despite being having a low budget and being in a severely constrained urban site. We worked closely with the School and Local Authority to create a building that worked exceptionally well educationally, is uplifting, and provides excellent value for money.
We overcame the challenge of the constrained urban site by placing some of the play areas onto the roof of the new early-years unit. This has given the school a differentiation in the type of outdoor spaces available to the pupils and is used for quieter recreation and outdoor curriculum activities.
Henry Cavendish demonstrates what is possible to achieve within a tight construction budget in a difficult hybrid remodel new-build project.
