The brief was to design a new Student Campus Facility to bring together  the satellite support services at Mill Lane. The new Students’ Services Centre incorporates bars, a food court, retails units, a university broadcasting centre and drama performance rehearsal spaces.  The building fills the entire site utilising a bold yet simple rectangular form with a fully glazed principal façade.  A large brise-soleil projects out beyond this façade, above an elevated terrace, creating an external space for students to meet and relax.

This project is a significant example of urban redevelopment for a multi mixed-use building with the primary function being education and yet maintaining a symbiotic relationship with the private sectors.  The building has achieved the objective of injecting confidence into the campus users and to those with a desire to reclaim our otherwise wasted urban spaces, this project is an outstanding example of what can be achieved within the urban framework.
