Dane Bank Residential

The site for this private luxury home previously contained a 1920’s bungalow which has been demolished to construct a new contemporary dwelling. The design creates modern open plan living areas that link with private bathroom, work, and sleeping areas.

The new house establishes a link to the external space by cascading the building form down the sloped garden with a series of mezzanine levels that follow the existing contours. The mezzanine levels include spaces within the roof pitch and a level partly below ground, minimising the impact of the building on the surrounding dwellings.

The majority of the elevations are standing seam zinc affect cladding with recesses on the entry level in composite timber cladding. The timber softens the design against the natural surroundings and echoes the presence of the trees and hedgerows around the property, further nesting the design in the site.
The glazing to the least overlooked elevation takes advantage of the views towards the trees and brook. The lower ground level is clad in a rustic solid render emphasising the grounding of the building in its sloping site. The roof is a sedum green roof system, further softening the dwelling against the existing greenery as well as helping with drainage attenuation and insulation.
