Blackheath Junior School nears completion

The project included the demolition of an existing dilapidated elevated link building and ground floor timber storage units which were replaced by a new two storey link building incorporating an escape staircase, platform lift, playground storage and minor internal alterations. The development will improve internal circulation and resolve means of escape for both staff and students, as well as providing integrated playground storage.

It was particularly challenging to develop the design for an extension to a Grade II listed building. We liaised with Heritage Consultants and produced a Heritage Impact Assessment which was submitted to Lewisham Council as part of the planning application. The new extension will feature planar glazing at the junctions with the existing brickwork facades and high-quality vertical timber cladding.
