The new vocational campus for Newcastle-under-Lyme College includes separate construction and engineering centre and sports facilities.
The principal objective and approach of the project was to create a new college campus to reflect the dynamics of further education in the 21st Century, inspiring and reaching out to the community thereby acting as a catalyst for future regeneration in the area.
The building embraces simple, clean, crisp lines and forms in order reinforce this approach. Clad in white render and metal cladding and complimented by elements of terracotta tiling to provide a sense of layering and depth to this large building. When viewed from a distance the building should therefore act as a beacon and through the juxtaposition of its various elements, embrace strong shadows when bathed in sunlight providing further interest and impact to the scheme as a whole.
The new campus embraces the sustainability agenda by incorporating technologies to improve running efficiency whilst also utilising the building as an educational tool for students.
