We have a passion for creating
great buildings and spaces that

that is achieved by an ability to
listen and reflect client need

The new vocational campus for Newcastle-under-Lyme College includes separate construction and engineering centre and sports facilities.

The principal objective and approach of the project was to create a new college campus to reflect the dynamics of further education in the 21st Century, inspiring and reaching out to the community thereby acting as a catalyst for future regeneration in the area.

The building embraces simple, clean, crisp lines and forms in order reinforce this approach. Clad in white render and metal cladding and complimented by elements of terracotta tiling to provide a sense of layering and depth to this large building.  When viewed from a distance the building should therefore act as a beacon and through the juxtaposition of its various elements, embrace strong shadows when bathed in sunlight providing further interest and impact to the scheme as a whole.

The new campus embraces the sustainability agenda by incorporating technologies to improve running efficiency whilst also utilising the building as an educational tool for students.

Initially working mainly within the commercial sector where he quickly developed his passion for contemporary modern design with  an innovative, proactive approach to problem solving he relishes the challenge that each individual project brings.

Mark enjoys the dialogue with end users and stakeholders and is experienced in integrating their various requirements to produce functional good quality design. He has won RIBA architecture and Civic Trust awards and has led design competition winning teams for the  De Montfort University campus centre building and more recently St Helens college town centre redevelopment.

More recently Mark has  played an active role as technical and client design advisor for a number of local authorities, assisting their own in house teams to review their educational estate and inform their strategy for change process from inception to completion through the building schools for the future programme.
