The project is a 2 form entry primary school that was created from a former special needs school on a very constrained site. Extensive refurbishment and remodelling, and some areas of new build, were required to create a primary school suitable for the 21st century. Because of the constrained site a rooftop play area is provided. The early-years (Nursery and Reception) unit is part of the school but has its own separate access and benefits from a private courtyard play area that offers security, ease of access, and animates the life of the entire school. A roof lit library forms the heart of the school and provides clear orientation and way finding.
