ACS Cobham is an independent international school for 1500 pupils aged 2-18, based in leafy surroundings just outside London. ACS Cobham is part of a federation of 4 schools, 3 of which are located in the UK, and 1 in Qatar.
The project included the conversion of an existing hall into a state-of-the-art performing arts centre with a 500 seat auditorium. The space is flexible and can be laid out for a number of uses. The technical and acoustic infrastructure is very sophisticated and includes a professional tension wire grid and full fly tower and rigging. Additionally, the project included a new build refectory and additional general and specialist teaching accommodation.
EllisWilliams worked as delivery architect on behalf of the contractor in a design-build arrangement.

Chris has been a qualified architect since 1978 and joined the practice in 1982. His initial career concentrated on commercial clients and educational projects in both the primary and secondary sectors. He was promoted to associate in 1989 and has worked in all parts of the country and also on projects in Germany via our Berlin office.
Experience on a variety of large and small complex projects for public and private clients and in both the commercial and non-commercial sectors has proved to be invaluable particularly on mixed use schemes such as Walkergate Durham. Recent projects include Liverpool Community Learner Centre and Barrow Hall Sixth Form College.

Lester has directed projects such as Kirklees Schools PFI, BSF Wandsworth, Park Campus, Apollo cinemas Redditch, St Crispin’s science building and the Radcliffe school and leisure centre. Prior to joining EllilsWilliams Lester directed large scale office buildings, university buildings and transportation projects.
His interests and specialisms are programmatically complicated buildings and technically challenging construction projects.
He operates in the education and commercial sectors.
