Salford University's The Future of BiM: Looking Beyond 2016 event last week saw an excellent turnout, and this time around the room wasn't filled with Architects, In fact, Architects were the distinct minority with the numbers being made up by those representing the construction industry, subcontractors, clients and local councils which is great to see that everyone is getting on-board as its filtering through to the wider team and end users. So it would look as though the word is out and good timing as 2016 is just around the corner.

No new ground was broken on the subject of "what is BiM" with the most noticeable development, compared to similar seminars held last year, was the evolution of software enabling the BiM process. A rather startling, but accurate, observation was made - Reception and Year 1 school classrooms have more technology than most offices in the AEC industry and the pupils, our next generation of staff, are more adept at using said technology than most companies senior staff. This points out the very obvious 'generation gap' in the workplace today, something that is felt to be potentially hindering the full implementation of BiM.

All in all it was a great day in Salford and most importantly it was a good way to measure EWA's position in the BiM race to level 2 and it seems like we're still firmly settled in the lead pack!

Watch this space for upcoming EWA BiM events.
